Since skateboarding’s initial rise in popularity during the 1970’s, skateboarding and in-
line skating have established themselves as national sports.
In fact, skateboarding has become so popular in America that the number of skateboarders in the U.S. (11.6 million) actually surpassed the number of baseball players (10.9 million) in
2000!
Yet, while our local landscape is speckled with baseball fields, you won’t find a single skatepark.
